菲律賓外交部發表聲明，指中國船隻駛到南海南沙群島中業島的附近水域，長期部署並進行非法活動，再次向中方提出外交抗議，強調中業島是菲律賓不可分割的一部分，馬尼拉擁有島嶼的主權及管轄權，要求中方撤走有關船隻。 路透社報道，今次是菲律賓總統杜特爾特2016年上任以來，至少第84次向中國提出外交抗議。中國駐馬尼拉大使館暫時未有回應。 菲律賓和中國就南海的主權爭議3月起升級，菲方多次要求中方撤走幾百艘被指由中國海上民兵控制的船隻，指船隻駛入菲律賓專屬經濟區。中國外交部多次強調，中方漁船在相關海域作業避風，合理合法。
